Plateau Anyone else relate to that image and fitness plateaus?!
Yup - it is inevitable that everyone has plateaus in their fitness/health journey. They are a mental struggle because many times we know why we went backwards (missed a couple weeks at the gym, had an injury, it was a big holiday or vacation and you sat and drank a lot - also SO ok because life happens) but a plateau is different. It is sort of this thing that creeps up and never has an expected date to go the f away! Some reasons why you may be plateauing are not all bad. Your body has adjusted to the load and intensity of your current routine. Mix it up! There are numerous resources, gyms, fitness classes, books to fill up someone’s time up for a lifetime. There are no excuses. You want more - do the work. Or find a coach you trust and have them help you. Seek out people you see who are making progress and ask them what they do.
Half the people that walk into a CrossFit gym do it because they know someone who . . . 1) looks amazing 2) probably won’t shut up about CrossFit 3)and that it’s varied , fun as hell and it shows . Also isn’t it just boring to do the same thing all the time? Your plateau is a sign from the universe that you are ready to move on. Plateaus in weight loss are also really normal. Your body sometimes needs to be readjusted. If you try some sort of instant weight loss or to starve yourself - you will start to yoyo. See a nutritionist, evaluate your diet again. You can play around with some things like carb cycling or intermittent fasting - for a time period! Not forever. The most efficient way to health is eating healthy food, non processed, evaluating your diet to make sure you are meeting all the needs your body requires to function well. Plateaus are also a sign of some other things -are you sleeping well? How is your stress level? Are you working out more and now not eating enough? A plateau can mean a lot of things - it does not mean you are failing! Do not let a plateau take you off the path. The plateau IS part of the path. Be patient, be smart, be curious about what is going on. .
